Is It Time to Re-evaluate Your Rules?

If you subscribe to the belief that your ability deteriorates as you get older, forget about it.

There are plenty of examples of people who got better as they aged. Randy Couture, the UFC world champion, started competing in his 20’s but didn’t get his best results until his 40’s.

As you get older, you too will become more experienced and wise and you will become a better entrepreneur.

Still, the rules that served you when you were younger and less experienced may not still serve you today. Ed O’Keefe explains more in this video, filmed at the Platinum Mastermind in Curacao.

DO THE SAME RULES STILL SERVE YOU?

The rules that serve us at age 22 to 24 are not the same rules that serve us at age 28 to 30.

Often times, we set ourselves rules about how hard we have to work or how much income we have to earn, because we’re working towards some end goal. Then, we manage to achieve that end goal, but we forget to re-evaluate the rules.

As a result, we continue living by a set of rules that no longer serve us.

Take some time to think about whether the rules by which you live your life no longer apply today compared to when you first started living by them.

DON’T WAIT TO EXHALE

In the movie Waiting to Exhale, two women are both having affairs with married men, and waiting for them to leave their wives.

Are you “waiting to exhale” with your business? There’s no sense “hustling” and “grinding” and working as hard as you possibly can, but never enjoying yourself in the process.

You don’t want to be on your deathbed, wishing that you had enjoyed the process, but instead having continued to overwork yourself after you reached your initial goal.

When you’re younger, it can be fun and fulfilling to work as hard as you can. But Ed O’Keefe has found that the success formula at age 29 doesn’t work for age 39.

At some point, you will want to slow down, exhale and take the opportunity to enjoy life.
